wrapping up the explorations...

I think I am done hauling out wee explorations for show and tell. I am working on some new stuff and I will show you that in the days to come.

The above small study is one I rather like (3" x 4", cps on Colourfix paper). Yes there are a few things that need tweaking but as a quick, improvisational piece it worked for me. Some day I might create a larger image using this study as inspiration.

When we moved here, I was thrilled to discover that we had so many varieties of flowering shrubs and trees. The honeymoon is over. While I am still thrilled to enjoy the beauty and the scent of the blossoms, it is the reality of maintenance that is hitting us. Shrubs keep on growing until they are unruly, seriously unruly. We spent the past weekend cutting back shrubs that have become bushy trees!!!! Maybe buying a property from people who were retired and enjoyed gardening wasn't such a great idea. :-)  Every summer the weeds and overgrowth get ahead of us. One of the many reasons I like winter. LOL

Hi Teresa! Love your explorations! Didn't it feel good to just create with no expectations?
As for the garden, I know what you mean about it getting out of control quickly! I decided to hire someone to come in and help trim things back and get it back under control! I'm so glad I did!

I'm having a wonderful time catching up with your explorations! the Wine Glass Trees is perhaps my favorite, along with the marsh scene, naturally :-) I really like what you are doing with shape and color in all of these!

Hi Beth, thanks for stopping by and thank you for your kind words! The idea of hiring someone did cross my mind last weekend. :-) We have acres of unruly gardens and shrubs so I think it would get very expensive! Oh well...

Hi Ann, thanks for taking the time to comment and thank you for your positive feed back. My goal is to someday capture marsh scenes as well as you do! :-)

Jennifer Rose, your comment ended up in my spam file - AND HOW COULD THAT BE - you thought my little piece was reminicent of works by the Group of Seven??? That should be shouted from the roof tops not buried as spam!!!!!! LOL and many thanks!

Love the 'exploration' drawing, and I know what you mean about the retired people with too much time to plant things that they know someone else will have to deal with one day! Mine is a giant trumpet vine planted inches away from a Japanese maple - never ending pruning and cutting back. Good luck with all of yours!

Hi Paula, I assume that your climate in California has things growing as if they are on steriods, compared to here anyway. Yes, I do love winter! :-)
