Coloured Pencil Classes, Ottawa studio

Plum project, CP Basics, copyright Teresa Mallen

If you live in the Ottawa area and you are eager to learn how to use coloured pencils, now is your chance. This spring I am offered a super duper, content packed, two day workshop.

Come and get all the info and practice you need to master the basics (and even more than the basics). You will be working like a pro in just two days. It's all about the content we cover...

I am posting a few of the course projects here. And yes you will be able to pull these off with no previous experience!!!!

I have never had a student unable to create the art shown here. Trust me, you won't be the exception! :-) I give tons of detailed instructions and you get to keep them. How cool is that?

I have created this course to give you everything you need to know so you can work with confidence and get amazing results.

Impressed Line Technique, Leaf Project, copyright Teresa Mallen

I'll bet all of these leaf veins look daunting! I assure you they are not. In fact, this is a super fast and easy project.

I provide a line drawing and you actually impress the veins into your paper. This is a fun technique that always thrills my students. Once you learn how, you can apply this to creating cat whiskers, or to rendering tree trunk bark or rock texture, hairs on plants or lace details.

This photo gives you an idea of how we work. I give you a reference photo, a line drawing, tons of step by step instructions as well as work in progress how to pictures. If you don't finish in class, no problem. You get to take all of the instructions (for each and every project) home with you.

Unlike most classes which leave you hanging and unable to complete your art, I set you up for success. You will be able to create a work of art that is worthy of slipping into a frame! :-)

What you need to know: course dates are Saturday May 16th and Saturday May 23rd, 2015

Registration is now open and spaces are very limited. We meet in my gorgeous studio, located on the west end of Ottawa, on the Carp Ridge (between Dunrobin and Carp).

Please visit the classes page of my website by clicking here. I have written out a very detailed description of the course and you can read all about YOUR BONUS ITEMS. You can register with your credit card right from my website.

If you bring a friend with you, you will also receive a GIFT BONUS of Derwent pencils!

Come learn in a relaxed, supportive and stimulating environment. The music is on, there are drinks and nibblies, a fountain bubbles away, candles are lit and the emphasis is on creativity and fun.

As your instructor and mentor, I am all about giving you the info you need in a very easy to handle fashion and we work at a pace that is super comfortable and respectful of beginners.

All line drawings are included so if you draw slowly like I do, I've got you covered.

If you have read the info on my website and you still want to confirm that this course is right for you, let's set up a 'get acquainted call' (which I mention in the course description). I would love to answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to meeting you.

P.S. Please don't wait to register. You don't want to miss out on getting a seat.

Finally, if you don't live in Ottawa, on-line courses are coming!!!!!

forgotten art and Downton Abbey

small rose, cps on Stonehenge, copyright Teresa Mallen

Hey, a non-newsletter post! :-)

I was looking through some images of my artwork and I came across this small rose. I sold it over a year ago and I rather forgot about it. I liked coming across my photo of it. Rather like seeing an old friend. I don't actually remember working on this one, it must have come together quickly and easily.

I remember the challenging ones!

I mentioned Downton in the title of the post. Here in North America, lots of us are glued to our tellies on Sunday nights, getting our fix of this upstairs/downstairs series.

If you are a fan of such shows and you love cats, I suggest you check out artist Paula Pertile's new work. Paula is a very talented illustrator and coloured pencil artist and she is currently creating images of kitties 'in service'.

Here is my personal favourite, the valet...

Here in Ottawa, it has been nasty cold for days. The goats and chickens don't like this weather and slippers are a must in the studio. The floor is cold because my studio is over top of an unheated garage. Hope everyone reading this is staying warm!
