Motivation Monday

Going after your dreams...what are you waiting for?

When you think of pursuing your dreams, are you waiting for a better time? Perhaps you are waiting until your kids are in school, or until your children require less taxi driving. Perhaps you are waiting until your life is less busy or you are waiting until you have more money saved up. Are you waiting until you retire?

"There are people who put their dreams in a little box and say, "Yes, I've got dreams, of course I've got dreams." Then they put the box away and bring it out once in a while to look in it, and yep, they're still there."
Erma Bombeck

Isn't it time you took your dreams out of the box and put them into action? Just how long do you think you have?

"Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it, I say! Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows."
Pope Paul VI

You have no doubt heard the sentiment that we should live like we are dying. Do you? We have all known someone who has had their life tragically cut short by disease or an accident. What if we don't live to a wonderful old age? The reality is that there probably isn't going to be a perfect time to chase your dreams. The economy goes into a recession, your kids move back home, or your elderly parents take more care than you had expected. Life happens.

I would like to encourage you to start chasing your dreams now! Don't wait for a time in the future that you hope will be better...do it now.

"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well."
Diane Ackerman

"Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

I encourage you to use your spare moments to live the width of your life. Live your life to the limit every minute of the day and don't let your dreams decay in a box. Don't wait to start living your dreams.

Spot on, Teresa, spot on! Carpe Diem!

Love the Emerson quote, that's one I'll be adding to my collection.

As a currently unemployed technical writer, while you were posting "Motivation Monday," I was driving to the Hocking Hills of Ohio in the hopes of getting photos of flowering trees (redbud and dogwood) and spring green. Spring's late in coming this year, so I came away with shots of rock formations at Ash Cave and its resident waterfall instead, and I asked the innkeeper to e-mail me when the trees start growing leaves so I can jump in the car at 4:30 a.m. the next day for a whirlwind daytrip back down there in search of the photos I missed the first time around. (It's roughly an eight-hour drive round trip.)

Am also using this time to enter art shows, visit galleries and consignment shops, build a better artist statement ... along with taking computer training courses for technical writing and applying for jobs in technical writing.

Wherever success happens first, I'll be happy to take it. Especially with planting seeds in both areas.

Hi Laure, Carpe Diem indeed! Thanks for taking the time to write a comment. :-)

Hi C.D., spring seems to be late in a lot of areas. You sure traveled a long way to see the flowering trees. I hope you get back there soon.

Congratulations on making such great use of your time. I am sure your hard work, determination and 'seed sowing' will pay off with much success, no doubt in both photography and technical writing. You go girl!
