gifts of August

the heat and sun of August coaxes forth flowers, an endless variety of form and colour

plants and trees bear fruit

August gifts us with so much...warm winds, a barley moon, cooler evenings, needing a quilt, watermelon, sunflowers, peach pie, stacks of fluffy clouds, the smell of second cut hay, those first ripe tomatoes, sweet corn...

meadows are filled with wildflowers, different grasses, clover

and the garden harvest begins

What were your favourite moments of this month?

farewell  August; welcome September...

Gorgeous photos!!! For us here in the middle of Florida we're still wilting with the heat and humidity but today there was a hint of a cooler breeze. I was outside playing with my granddaughter as the black clouds moved in. The rumbling thunder got louder as the storm got closer and there it was - the wind whipped up, tousled Maxine's hair and she grinned. She felt it too, the first touch of September come to visit on the last day of August.

Isn't it grand?

What beautiful, enjoyable photos! Loved looking over them. Though August here is NC is close to being unbearable with it's heat and humidity. That's okay... today is Sept. 1 and Fall is on the way! Woo Hoo!

Carlynne, you have painted a lovely image with your words. Maxine is lucky to have you to play with - your studio must be one of her favourite places! Teresa and Goatlady, yes fall is coming, quite quickly it seems. It was hot here for so long that I think I started to feel like it would always be that way. Kendra, I too love this time of year. It is a bit like holding your breath in anticipation. We know winter is coming but first we enjoy all of that lovely foliage...rather bittersweet in a way.
